FreedomPay Launches ‘Vibe’ Mobile Wallet for Restaurants (Jan. 29, 2013)

Adding to a growing array of mobile payments options for merchants, FreedomPay is entering the fray with “Vibe,” a mobile wallet initially targeting restaurant operators interested in creating targeted consumer promotions on the fly, based on specials, weather and in-store traffic conditions. The Radnor, Pa.-based payment processor says its cloud-based mobile wallet is easily integrated with merchants’ existing POS systems and requires no additional hardware installation. Consumers may download the app for iOS and Android mobile devices and opt to receive notifications of special offers, loyalty rewards and deals based on their preferences and location, FreedomPay said. The company introduced the wallet in May 2012 and three St. Louis-area restaurants, Chandler Hill Winery, Companion Bread and Sam’s Pizza recently began testing the app in a handful of locations, according to the company.
Founded in 2000, FreedomPay initially focused on stored value payment programs, branching out in recent years to provide a broad range of payment processing services to about 2,500 merchants, emphasizing tools to improve results based on sales trends, the company said. Merchants deploying Vibe can launch promotions instantly and track their response as a way to offer short-lived promotions when business is slow, the company noted. Participating consumers open the app and scan a QR code at any point while shopping (or dining) and earn deals or loyalty points when checking out/paying for their meal, a FreedomPay spokesperson tells Paybefore. FreedomPay, which offers payment processing services directly to merchants, is also working with independent sales organizations to promote Vibe, she says.
