GOP Leaders Talking Tough on Interchange Fee Cap (Feb. 26, 2013)
Feb. 26. 2013
Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-Ala.) today told attendees at a Credit Union National Association Government Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C., that federal lawmakers may revisit the debit interchange fee cap created by the Durbin Amendment this year, according to CUNA’s News Now. The publication also reports the Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) said earlier in the day that he “will not rest” until Congress repeals interchange fee cap provisions, which he equated to federal price controls. Rep. Bachus is the past chair of the House Financial Services Committee, a committee on which he still sits, and Rep. Hensarling is the current chair.
