Virgin Australia Joins Airlines Adding Prepaid Card for Frequent Fliers (April 22, 2013)
Virgin Australia is joining a growing number of airlines adding a prepaid travel card as a perk for frequent flier customers. Members of the airline’s Velocity Frequent Flyer program will have the option to upgrade their existing Global Wallet membership card to a contactless Visa prepaid card, enabling customers to load funds onto their cards and store them in various different foreign currencies. Rȇv Worldwide is Virgin Australia’s partner in the launch. Cardholders may use the card for purchases around the world and earn frequent flier points for each purchase, the airline said.
Kuwait Airlines earlier this month introduced a prepaid MasterCard for members of its frequent-flier Al Waha Club. And Air New Zealand in 2011 grabbed attention with its Paybefore Award-winning OneSmart Card in conjunction with processor and program manager Rȇv Worldwide. Qantas Airlines this summer also plans to add a contactless prepaid MasterCard for members of its Qantas Frequent Flyer program.
