Bell ID releases secure cloud NFC tool
Dutch software company Bell ID has released a new tool that aims to simplify the provision of NFC mobile services, including mobile payment.
The firm’s secure element in the cloud manages keys, certificates and NFC credentials in a remote environment rather than in the mobile device; the idea is to provide app issuers with the ability to control their credentials without third party involvement.
The tool brings together a standard contactless terminal and acceptance infrastructure. When a consumer makes a transaction, their NFC credential is accessed from the remote cloud secure element. The technology can also pre-authorise payments, so that consumers can still make a transaction even when a connection to the server cannot be established.
“With our SE in the cloud software, we offer an easy, affordable and flexible alternative to the complex deployment models used in today’s NFC marketplace,” said Pat Curran, executive chairman at Bell ID. “This makes mobile NFC services accessible to a much wider audience, including banks, service providers, mobile network operators, payment processors and card personalisation bureaus.”
