MoneyGram forges deal with Lebara Mobile for international money transfers
MoneyGram has forged a deal with European mobile telecom operator Lebara Mobile to make it easy for consumers in key markets in Europe to transfer funds around the world using their smartphones or PCs.
MoneyGram has integrated its funds-transfer platform within the Lebara Money mobile apps for iOS and Android devices and the telco’s website, initially enabling consumers in the UK to send funds internationally via MoneyGram to its 320,000 locations in 198 countries. The service soon will be available to consumers in Spain, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Denmark and Switzerland, the companies said.
Lebara in 2011 launched Lebara Money in the UK, harnessing a prepaid Mastercard enabling cardholders to send money instantly to other Lebara Money cardholders with linked accounts. Wirecard Card Solutions issues the card, which targets ethnic minorities in the UK with the need to send funds to key payment destinations, including China, Ghana, Nigeria, the Philippines and Eastern Europe.
