InComm Announces Cabela Deal; Blackhawk to Roll Out Gift Card Malls in Home Depot (July 22, 2013)
July 22, 2013
Two distribution deals in the last week promise to increase prepaid card availability for consumers. InComm announced it will be distributing gift cards for Cabela’s through its retail distribution network of 225,000 locations, while rival Blackhawk Network will be rolling out its Gift Card Mall in U.S. Home Depot locations this year.
Under InComm’s umbrella, the outdoor sporting goods retailer’s gift cards will now be available through retailers, including CVS/pharmacy, Walgreens, Rite Aid, Office Depot and Sunoco, among others. The Cabela’s cards will be offered in denominations of $25 and $50, with select locations offering variable-load cards that can be issued up to $500. Sydney, Neb.-based Cabela’s operates 44 stores across North America and plans to open an additional 16 by the end of 2014, the company said.
Blackhawk Network last week announced an agreement with The Home Depot, the world’s largest home improvement retailer, to sell gift cards, prepaid telecom and airtime, as well as prepaid financial service products at Gift Card Malls in nearly 2,000 stores across the country. As consumers’ use of prepaid cards continues to grow, the Gift Card Malls in The Home Depot locations create added convenience for shoppers purchasing prepaid cards for gifting and self-use, Blackhawk said.
