InComm Expands Digital Offerings in Stores, on Web (July 18, 2013)

The shift to omnichannel retail continues as InComm this week rolled out a pair of services to enable the prepaid provider’s client companies to expand their digital product offerings in stores and on the Web.
InComm’s new in-store digital sales program opens the door for merchants to offer products such as downloadable music, e-books and digital gift cards through a retailer-branded mobile Website accessible from a customer’s mobile device while in-store. When a shopper browsing a prepaid display spots signage offering digital content, he or she texts a short code, enters a URL or scans a QR code to land on a retailer-branded mobile Website for the digital product being purchased. Once the product selection is confirmed, a barcode appears on the customer’s phone, which is then scanned by the cashier at POS. The product also can be saved directly to the mobile device or sent as a gift via email.
“Today’s consumers are almost always equipped with their mobile phones while shopping at our retail partners’ stores,” said Thomas Cornelius, senior vice president, InComm in-store digital solutions. “Giving customers instant access to an expanded catalog of traditional digital prepaid products, as well as adding purchasing options for categories like music, movies and books … is one way retailers can expand their product offering, stay relevant and continue to serve as a one-stop shopping destination.”
Atlanta-based InComm also this week announced the launch of Pre-Top, a technology solution that enables client companies to offer value-added services to customers on their Websites. With Pre-Top, networks, financial institutions, credit card companies and others can offer digital products and services like music, gaming, software downloads, wireless airtime, long-distance, financial and third-party gift cards.
