Blackhawk Brings Insurance Card to Canadian Safeway Locations (Aug. 15, 2013)
Aug. 15, 2013
Blackhawk Network has released a new line of travel insurance cards that will enable customers to purchase coverage with cash at Canadian Safeway grocery locations. Known as SmartAssure, the cards are being launched in partnership with issuer Jones Deslauriers Blevins Insurance Group, one of Canada’s largest insurance brokerages. Available in multiple denominations and coverage levels, SmartAssure cards are designed to suit a variety of travel needs, such as emergency medical care.
“Many Canadians do not have access to a credit card and are therefore excluded from purchasing travel and other forms of everyday insurance online,” noted Steve Dekker, Blackhawk Network Canada group vice president. “We believe that SmartAssure travel insurance products address an unmet need in the market by giving Canadians access to competitively priced products available for purchase using cash, debit and credit at their local retailer.”
The cards are available for terms of four, eight and 15 days, and provide coverage for individuals or families. Once a customer purchases the card, he or she registers the insurance and trip itinerary via Web or phone. Blackhawk will expand the SmartAssure line to additional distribution partners in 2014, the company said.
