Zagat, i2c Launch Virtual Gift Card (Sept. 26, 2013)
Zagat, known for its ratings guide for restaurants and nightlife, has launched the Zagat Dining Card, an electronic gift card currently accepted at nearly 230 restaurants in New York City. The customizable gift cards are delivered by email and can be purchased in denominations of $25, up to $600. The virtual cards can be used multiple times in as many different participating restaurants as the balance allows. Gift cards are redeemed by printing the email or from the recipient’s mobile device by having the QR code scanned. Some restaurants will offer special deals to customers using the gift card, according to the company. Additional restaurants in other cities will be added to the program later this year.
Redwood City, Calif.-based i2c Inc. is providing the technology used to issue the virtual cards, facilitate digital redemption at the point of sale, and track and calculate commissions between program manager SE GiftCards and participating restaurants.
