MasterCard Inks Broad MasterPass Distribution Deal with Worldline (Oct. 21, 2013)
MasterCard’s MasterPass digital wallet service will become available to thousands of e-commerce merchants across 17 countries in Europe and Asia beginning next month, through a partnership with Paris-based payments provider Worldline. The next stage of the partnership is integrating MasterPass at the POS, according to MasterCard. The deal makes it possible for merchants using payment platforms provided by Worldline, a subsidiary of Atos, to easily add MasterPass to their Websites, simplifying the purchase process for consumers by enabling them to store payment credentials and address details with the digital wallet.
Beginning as early as next year, Worldline’s merchant clients will be able to add MasterPass as a POS payment option for smartphone payment deploying NFC and QR codes, MasterCard said. Worldline provides payment services to thousands of merchants in France, Benelux, Germany, U.K., Spain, India, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong, among other Asian countries. MasterCard has been steadily rolling out MasterPass to various global regions since the digital wallet made its formal debut in February. Canada was first, followed by the U.S. and U.K.; 16 Australian payment providers in August extended MasterPass to their merchant clients, MasterCard said.
