InComm’s Mobile-Optimized Shopping Cart Boosts Gift Card Sales (Nov. 12, 2013)
Prepaid product and transaction services provider InComm is giving retailers a new way to offer gift cards to their customers via mobile device. The company’s mobile-optimized shopping cart enables consumers to purchase and send digital and physical gift cards within a retailer’s mobile app or mobile-optimized Website by clicking on a gift card link. Shoppers then can choose a physical or digital card, select a design and amount, and customize the card with a personal message. When the order is complete, the gift card is emailed or sent to the recipient. The mobile platform has helped bolster gift card sales, according to InComm. For example, one of its retail clients saw mobile sales jump to 10 percent of all gift cards sold during the first month of using the platform.
“Consumers are looking to their mobile devices to do pretty much everything—shop, browse, read, research, play games and more,” noted David Nelsen, general manager of InComm Digital Solutions. “By providing a quick and easy way to purchase physical or digital gift cards via mobile, companies can significantly increase sales opportunities.”
Atlanta-based InComm entered the e-gift card market with a splash in early 2013, when the company acquired Portland, Ore., digital gift card fulfillment provider Giftango Corp., whose platform enables merchants to sell digital gift cards through their own Websites. Under terms of that deal, Giftango became a wholly owned subsidiary of InComm and now serves as the platform for the company’s digital rollouts, including the new mobile gifting platform.
