paysafecard Hits Australia with 12,000 Retail Partners (Nov. 18, 2013)
Austria-based e-voucher provider paysafecard group is expanding its services to Australia, the company has announced. Citing Down Under as “one of the world’s leading countries in terms of digital development,” paysafecard is launching there with more than 12,000 retail partners out of the gate.
“We enter the Australian market with high expectations as we see a great potential for our prepaid payment solution,” said Michael Mueller, CEO, paysafecard. “The majority of consumers in Australia still rely on cash. Many Australians also have safety concerns when it comes to paying online. This makes our product particularly interesting for Australia as customers can use paysafecard as safely, easily and fast as cash.”
The Paybefore Award-winning paysafecard platform enables cash-preferred consumers to purchase e-vouchers in retail stores that can be used to shop online. Each voucher features a unique 16-digit PIN that can be entered when shopping online to redeem the voucher and make a purchase. In February, the company was acquired by Skrill, one of Europe’s largest payment providers, in a EUR 140 million (US$183 million) deal.
