Five U.K. Banks to Offer Zapp’s Mobile Payments Service (Jan. 15, 2014)
Zapp has partnered with five banks in the U.K. that have approximately 18 million customers combined to provide the financial institutions with its mobile payments service. HSBC, first direct, Metro Bank, Nationwide and Santander will integrate Zapp’s service into their mobile banking applications. Customers of these banks will be able to pay for goods and services using the app on their smartphones, as well as view account balances and choose from which account to pay.
“With our already announced acquirer partnerships [WorldPay, Optimal Payments, Realex and SagePay], Zapp will go to market with real scale, offering simpler, more secure and efficient payments to millions of customers and businesses,” said Zapp CEO Peter Keenan.
The group of banks and acquirers represents more than one-third of bank accounts in the U.K., as well as 60 percent of all merchants in the region, according to an announcement. Zapp, a wholly owned subsidiary of London-based international payment provider VocaLink, said it will continue to recruit new members to this alliance throughout 2014.
