Dan Henry Leaving NetSpend; Chuck Harris Assumes the Reins (July 15, 2014)
Chuck Harris has been named senior executive vice president of TSYS, and he will take over the reins of TSYS-owned GPR and payroll card provider NetSpend, effective July 31, as CEO Dan Henry is leaving the company after serving in the executive role since 2008.
With Henry’s departure, “the CEO position will not be replaced, and NetSpend’s president will become a senior executive vice president at TSYS, in addition to his current responsibilities,” says Virginia Ann “V.A.” Holman, group executive for global marketing and corporate communications at TSYS. “Chuck’s promotion to this position was a part of TSYS’s succession planning process.” Last July, Columbus, Ga.-based TSYS completed its $1.4 billion acquisition of GPR and payroll card provider NetSpend.
Henry, an outspoken and staunch advocate of the prepaid industry and co-recipient of Paybefore Awards Industry Achievement recognition this year, said the decision to leave was difficult, calling the people at Austin, Texas-based NetSpend his “heroes,” but that his family was a major factor in leaving. “With my home and family based in Kansas City, it’s time for me to pull back on my travel and spend more time at home,” Henry said in an announcement released late yesterday afternoon. “Chuck is the right person to take on this top leadership role and will surely grow NetSpend to new heights.”
Henry told Paybefore he has “no immediate plans other than to relax, enjoy the rest of the summer and decompress a bit. I don’t know what my next move professionally will be. I plan to just see what comes along.”
Harris has more than 20 years of experience in the payments industry. Prior to joining NetSpend as president in 2010, he served as general manager of the payment solutions division at Intuit. He also served as CEO, president and chief operating officer at Electronic Clearing House (ECHO), an electronic payment solutions provider acquired by Intuit in 2007.
