DHgate Becomes First Chinese Merchant to Deploy MasterPass (Aug. 19, 2014)
Beijing-based e-commerce platform DHgate is integrating MasterCard’s MasterPass online payment service to simplify online purchasing for customers. The B2B wholesaler, which enables China-based SMEs to sell their products overseas, is the first Chinese merchant to offer MasterPass, according to MasterCard. The companies became strategic partners last December, with the goal of expanding payment solutions and offering new cross-border sales channels for China-based SMEs.
Launched in February 2013 in Australia and Canada, MasterPass operates in 10 countries, including the U.S., U.K. and Spain. In March, China Construction Bank became the first bank issuer in Asia to implement MasterPass, incorporating the service into its mobile wallet.
