Heartland Acquires mPOS Tablet Maker Leaf
Aug. 18, 2014
Heartland Payment Systems has acquired Leaf, creator of an mPOS tablet, a deal the payments processor said demonstrates its commitment to providing resources and support for small- to medium-sized businesses. Last year, Heartland invested $20 million in Leaf and, with this acquisition, has purchased the remaining minority interest. Leaf will operate as a separate business and Sarah McCrary will remain Leaf’s CEO, and co-founder Sebastian Castro will continue as chief technical evangelist, according to the announcement. Additional terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Leaf’s product, LeafPresenter, is a POS tablet custom-made for businesses, with a built-in card reader and business management, analytics and customer engagement capabilities.
