Indian E-Gifting Platform Adds Pair of Leading Retailers (Aug. 14, 2014)
Electronic gifting is growing in India, where retailers have adopted e-gifting to drive sales and increase brand awareness. Two major Indian companies—department store chain Shoppers Stop and wristwatch retailer World of Titan—recently have launched e-gifting programs through online gifting provider giftbig.com. The programs enable users to send gift codes to recipients via SMS or email that then can be redeemed in-store.
The companies are two of the latest Indian brands to begin offering e-gifts through giftbig.com, the e-commerce arm of Bangalore-based gift card provider QwikCilver Solutions. In the past six months, more than 40 merchants, including international brands like Levi’s and Van Heusen, have joined the giftbig online gift card market. Smaller local brands also have turned to e-gifts, which cost less to produce and deliver, while enabling merchants to track valuable customer and spending data. On the other end of the spectrum, e-gifts are a central component of Amazon’s expansion in India, where the online retail giant announced a $2 billion expansion last month.
