SUBWAY Deploying Softcard-Branded Payment Terminals at 26,000-Plus Stores (Sept. 16, 2014)
Starting next month, Softcard users will be able to pay for food at SUBWAY using their mobile phones, as the quick service restaurant announced today it will launch Softcard-branded NFC payment terminals at its 26,000-plus locations in the U.S. Softcard, formerly Isis Wallet, is the NFC-based mobile payment initiative backed by AT&T Mobility, Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile.
SUBWAY is calling the launch one of the largest deployments of mobile payment capability in the country, and the announcement must be welcome news to the Softcard backers after recently deciding to rebrand their mobile wallet to distance it from the jihadist militant group, Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, which uses the acronym ISIS.
Softcard and SUBWAY also announced a promotion lasting until the end of the year in which Softcard users who tap and pay at a SUBWAY restaurant will receive $1 back on every purchase over $1 made with the American Express Serve card. In the coming months, SUBWAY will be including its rewards program in the Softcard app, providing customers with a convenient way to collect reward points.
