EU Debate on Payments Package Starts Nov. 19 (Nov. 18, 2014)
Debate over revised European payments legislation, including interchange reforms, is set to begin in Brussels on Nov. 19. The European Council has finalized its work on the “Payments Package,” and members will start discussing the final text of the proposal with the European Parliament and the European Commission in meetings called trilogues.
“Last-minute amendments could again be presented to the next plenary vote in the European Parliament,” Monica Monaco, founder and managing director of TrustEUAffairs, tells Paybefore. “Even before that stage, trialogues are expected to be quite animated,” she adds. Monaco will be providing details of the meetings and changes to the payments package in an upcoming edition of Pay News.
