First Data Adds to Clover Family with Mobile POS Device (Nov. 5, 2014)
First Data Corp. is testing Clover Mobile, a hand-held mobile POS device, enabling small to midsize businesses to provide quicker service and sales, as well as improved customer engagement, by taking the POS terminal off the counter and bringing it to the consumer. The Atlanta-based payments processor expects the device to be available globally to merchants next year. Clover Mobile can be paired with the Clover Station countertop device, but also works as a standalone device equipped with full register capabilities and access to the Clover App Market, which includes First Data’s Insightics business analytics, Perka loyalty and Gyft prepaid solutions, among other apps for the restaurant and retail industries.
Clover Mobile processes standard mag-stripe cards and supports chip-and-pin EMV transactions. The device’s NFC capabilities enable it to accept contactless payment, including Apple Pay, and its barcode reader enables merchants to scan goods for inventory purposes or for checkout. Clover Mobile also features a mobile printer that can be attached to a cashier’s belt to provide customers paper receipts without returning to the register. First Data sold more than 26,000 Clover Station units since it was rolled out seven months ago, according to the company.
