First Data Collaborates with UL for Merchant EMV Migration Services (Jan. 21, 2015)
First Data is working with UL, a payment security and compliance leader, to help U.S. merchants prepare for the EMV migration. For U.S. merchants upgrading payment terminals in anticipation of the October 2015 EMV liability shift, First Data, in conjunction with UL, is offering its new CertPro service for large and midsize merchant customers and independent service vendors. UL has a long track record of guiding merchants through EMV migrations outside the U.S. and has been working with large retailers in the U.S. over the last year, the companies said.
The CertPro solution expedites merchants’ acceptance of EMV-enabled payment cards for all major payment networks, using UL’s accredited EMV testing tools and certification management platforms. The solution also includes training merchants need for a smooth transition, First Data’s Steve Mathison, vice president of payment acceptance, tells Paybefore. “Large and midsize retailers upgrading their payment terminals to accept EMV cards face a big challenge in reworking the checkout lane experience, and the complexity they face can be overwhelming,” he adds.
In addition to First Data’s broad merchant reach and UL’s deep EMV expertise and testing and accreditation resources, UL has a large expert task force to give merchants hands-on education and assistance, Sherif Samy, commercial director for UL’s Transaction Security division in North America, tells Paybefore. “Because the U.S. is a huge complex market, the scale of its EMV migration is immense, and we believe a lot of merchants will require help with this process in 2015 and in the years to come.”
