Cardtronics Offers Surcharge-Free ATM Access Direct to Consumers (Mar. 3, 2015)
ATM owner/operator Cardtronics Inc. is launching a new surcharge-free ATM membership program called ATMpass that enables consumers to purchase monthly, quarterly or annual memberships for surcharge-free ATM access in retail locations. Members sign up, link an ATM card and then may make cash withdrawals using that card at any participating ATM without being charged an ATM surcharge fee from the ATM owner. (Members still must pay any fee charged by their banks.)
The initial phase of the program is complete, encompassing 5,000 ATMs at select CVS/pharmacy and Walgreens stores in 38 states and Washington, D.C. Cardtronics plans to add more U.S. ATMs to the network this year. Users can locate the nearest participating ATM via a companion mobile app.
“Having cash access at a surcharge-free ATM in a retail location that is part of their day-to-day life is important to many people,” said Tom Pierce, chief marketing officer, Cardtronics. “For consumers who feel limited by their current ATM options, or don’t have any surcharge-free ATMs near their home, work or school, ATMpass gives them control over ATM surcharge fees and the freedom to choose convenience.”
