PayPal’s ‘One Touch for Web’ Launching in Canada, U.K. (June 9, 2015)
Consumers in Canada and the U.K. this week will have access to PayPal’s One Touch for Web payment app, enabling them to pay for purchases with one click after logging in. Subsequent purchases can be made at multiple e-merchants until the user logs out of the service. A little over a month ago PayPal launched the service in the U.S. The payment app will be rolled out to additional countries this summer, though PayPal didn’t specify which ones.
Most PayPal merchants automatically will have One Touch enabled for their customers without needing to do any integration, Bill Ready, PayPal’s senior vice president and global head of merchant and next-gen commerce, wrote in a PayPal blog yesterday.
The mobile version of One Touch began rolling out last August. The solution was built using the technology platform of Braintree, the e-commerce processor PayPal acquired in 2013. Merchants including Airbnb, Lyft and StubHub began offering the service; StubHub reported a double-digit increase in total sales volume through PayPal on iOS since enabling One Touch, according to PayPal. Because One Touch enables consumers to pay without reentering any payment information, it helps to increase customer adoption and address checkout abandonment, according to Ready.
