Dunkin’ Donuts Mobile App Integrates Apple Pay (Dec. 15, 2015)
Two of the biggest names in mobile payments are coming together. Users of the popular Dunkin’ Donuts payment and loyalty app now can use Apple Pay to purchase, gift or reload virtual Dunkin’ Donuts Cards. The integration began on Dec. 7, in time for the holiday gifting season, and adds another use case for Apple Pay, which has been continually expanding its footprint since launching in fall 2014. Dunkin’ Donuts does not currently accept Apple Pay for in-store purchases, but is planning to add that functionality soon, according to Apple. The partnership follows a similar online and in-app integration Dunkin’ announced with Visa Checkout earlier this year.
Dunkin’ Donuts’ mobile app is one of the touchstone success stories in the merchant mobile/loyalty space, with more than 15 million downloads since its release in 2012, according to the company. The app is integrated with the DD Perks rewards program, which enables members to earn points toward free beverages and selected offers throughout the year. Under the Apple Pay partnership, users will continue to earn all of the rewards and benefits of the app and Dunkin Donuts card. Beyond rewards and loyalty, Dunkin’ Donuts has built out additional mobile services, piloting a mobile order and delivery service in Dallas and Portland, Me., last month.
