suretap, Enstream Testing Tap-to-Pay Service for Commuters (Dec. 8, 2015)
Canada-based suretap sure has been busy the past few weeks. The mobile wallet provider is working with mobile technology company EnStream to test a program with the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) enabling commuters to pay fares using their mobile wallets. Last month, suretap announced a partnership with loyalty management specialist Points to become the first m-wallet in Canada to offer full loyalty card integration, according to the company.
With this new test, Suretap, a 2015 Paybefore Award winner for M-Wallet of the Year, and EnStream, both owned by wireless carriers Bell, Rogers and Telus, replicated the purchasing and validation features of STM’s OPUS smart card on Android mobile devices using NFC technology. Testing included secure storage of data on SIM cards, recognition of processing of OPUS credentials at station turnstiles and ticket purchases using payment cards that have been downloaded to the suretap wallet app. The announcement didn’t offer details on when transit payments may be added to suretap wallet, but transit payments have been a big part of Apple Pay’s rollout in London. MasterCard has been offering Apple Pay users free rides on Transport for London on Mondays from Nov. 23 through Dec. 14th.
