Verifone Debuts M-POS Device at Money20/20 Europe
Verifone has debuted a mobile POS device at Money20/20 Europe in Copenhagen, a product called Verifone Carbon that is designed for such businesses as cafés, quick service restaurants and retail stores.
The product comes with a stand with a built-in printer, has dual screens for merchants and consumers, has an optional cash drawer, is portable and requires “minimal counter space,” Verifone said. The screen consumers see can give them targeted marketing messages based on their purchases and behavior. For instance, Verifone Carbon can display coupons, loyalty points and personalized offers that consumers can redeem at checkout.
“As a payments company, what’s exciting for us it to compete not only on a PCI level and a scale level but also from a design and innovation standpoint,” Andy Payment, head of global communications, Verifone, told Paybefore at Money20/20 Europe. “This sets a new standard for what Verifone is going to be able to deliver.” Payment is moving to the background and value-added services like loyalty are moving to the forefront, he said.
The merchant operations for Carbon run on an Android operating system while the consumer-facing side uses the Verifone Engagement platform. The device accepts magnetic-stripe, chip and contactless payments.
“As payments become more integrated into commerce, products like Verifone Carbon will make running a business more efficient and fun with engaging solutions and high-value applications, while playing a pivotal role in taking consumer experiences to the next level,” said Thad Peterson, senior analyst at Aite Group. “This is where all channels work together to deliver value to merchants and their customers.”
The launch follows Verifone’s Best-in-Category win for its Mobile Hardware E-Series in the 10th Annual Pay Awards, which were announced at All Payments Expo in New Orleans last month.
