Nationwide launches new mobile banking app
Nationwide Building Society has launched a new mobile banking app – and users can now log on using Apple’s Touch ID biometric technology.
Barnaby Davis, Nationwide’s divisional director group retail strategy, says: “As a mutual, Nationwide is owned by and run for the benefit of its members. This is why when designing our new mobile banking app we listened to their views and have integrated many of the developments they said they wanted.”
The app has a range of features. For example, current account and credit card customers will be able to trawl back through 15 months of transactions on the refreshed app, compared to one month on the previous version, while a new search function allows customers to locate transaction by name, amount or location.
Nationwide says “old favourites” have been retained – such as Quick Balance, which allows customers to check how much money they have without the need to log in. On an average day, the building society says over 105,000 customers use this option.
The new app is available from the App Store and Google Play Store, and existing App users can download the upgrade.
The building society plans to introduce a series of developments and additional functionality over the coming months.
It’s kind of a big deal
Recently, Nationwide chose Tech Mahindra, an Indian IT services company, to provide network and infrastructure services in a five-year partnership agreement.
The building society’s ambition is to connect its UK retail operations, comprising around 700 branches to more than 15 million customers. It also plans new services in its branches, such as Nationwide NOW videoconferencing, as well as “improving” back-end services for staff.
