Ecobank launches unified mobile app in Africa
Pan-African banking group Ecobank has launched its Ecobank Mobile App across the continent – the “first unified app delivered by any institution for use in 33 countries”.
Ecobank says the app will give it the “scale and capacity” to achieve its target of attaining 100 million customers.
Ecobank Group CEO Ade Ayeyemi says the app “opens up opportunities for customers by allowing them to shop, transact and do business without cash”.
The app lets customers open a new digital account with “no paper references” and Ecobank also has partnerships with Visa and MasterCard.
The project follows on from a major back-office software renovation, completed by the banking group a few years ago. Oracle FSS’s Flexcube core banking system was rolled out across the entire pan-African network of Ecobank.
Incorporated in Lomé, Togo in 1988, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) is the parent company of Ecobank. It currently has a presence in 36 African countries. The group employs over 17,500 people in 40 different countries in over 1,200 branches and offices. The bank provides wholesale, retail, investment and transaction banking services and products.
