Symphony unveils open developer platform and access to API
Symphony Software Foundation has launched an open developer platform.
The foundation hosts open source development, bots, apps and integrations on the Symphony platform. It will also provide community contributors and foundation member organisations with access to the Symphony API, as well as development tools.
Gabriele Columbro, executive director, Symphony Software Foundation, says open source “fuelled the cloud and big data revolutions” and so “it’s no longer about choosing between proprietary or open source” but about selecting the “best open source platform and to engage your community”.
The company was set up a few years ago to challenge Bloomberg and Reuters, which currently lead in instant communications. It already has powerful members on its list, including BNY Mellon, Citadel, Citi, Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley and Wells Fargo.
Movement
This latest launch is part of Symphony’s orchestrated efforts in the fintech arena.
Recently, New York-based OpenFin, a provider of HTML5 runtime technology for the financial industry, joined Symphony Software Foundation.
Symphony and Markit partnered to promote the adoption of a Collaboration-Platform-as-a-Service (CPaaS), “to enable richer workflow and collaboration throughout the financial industry and other sectors”.
