Android Pay launches in Poland
Android Pay is now live in Poland – the first country on continental Europe to launch the service.
Android Pay is available to the holders of Mastercard cards issued by Alior Bank, T-Mobile Banking Services and Bank Zachodni WBK. Other Polish banks are expected to follow shortly.
Bartosz Ciołkowski, country manager Poland at Mastercard Europe, feels the country has “a huge potential to widely adopt the technology in a short time”, thanks to “a high market share of Android OS in Poland and highly developed payment infrastructure”.
The US was the first country to get Android Pay – this was in May 2015. The UK followed a year later. In Asia, Android Pay is available in Singapore and Hong Kong. It is also up and running in Australia, with ANZ being the first bank to introduce it to the market in July.
