Chase Pay Bites into QSR Sector with LevelUp
Consumers with Chase Pay mobile wallets can now order and preemptively pay for their meals at quick service restaurants thanks to a deal with Boston-based LevelUp, Chase said. The deal, which comes as Chase expands its mobile wallet, promises to help make that payment technology more important for consumers, as the deal eventually will involve thousands of eateries.
Customers can also pay at those restaurants via Chase Pay branded scanners at counters. The LevelUp service also offers access to special offers and rewards programs. For now, the service is available only in Boston, with Chase expecting a national rollout in the “coming months” to “thousands” of locations.
“Since the beginning, LevelUp has wanted to provide a mobile solution that drove value to both consumers and merchants in a trackable way,” said Seth Priebatsch CEO of LevelUp, to the New York Business Journal. “We experimented with tons of things—daily deals, card-linked offers, Facebook coupons, you name it. But the experiment that stuck with both consumers and merchants was mobile payments and loyalty.”
The LevelUp deal comes amid a busy few months for Chase Pay: Walmart announced it will begin accepting Chase Pay starting in 2017. The retail giant will accept Chase Pay for purchases made in-store, online and through its own mobile app. The Chase Pay mobile app followed the Capital One and Wells Fargo m-wallets to the market.
