Oracle ponders acquisition of Accenture?
According to The Register, Oracle is exploring the feasibility of buying consultancy giant Accenture, and has hired specialists to that effect.
The online publication cites sources who claim a team of consultants is conducting due diligence to “explore the synergies that could be created if Oracle bought Accenture lock, stock and barrel”.
A source is quoted by The Register saying, “while these things have a habit of fizzling out there are some fairly serious players around the table”.
However, it is understood the process is at a very early stage at present.
Oracle and Accenture have been working together for many years, and have a number of strategic partnerships in place, including that of jointly helping companies move from legacy tech to the cloud.
Accenture currently has a market cap of $78.4 billion, and if Oracle were indeed to take over Accenture, it would be its largest purchase.
Oracle spent $10.3 billion on PeopleSoft (2004), $909 million on i-Flex Solutions (2005), $7.4 billion on Sun Microsystems (2009) and $9.3 billion on NetSuite (2016). Plus there has been a myriad of smaller acquisitions over the years.
The Register says Oracle declined to provide a comment, while “Accenture was not aware of the exercise being run… at least not until now”.
