Square Opens Manhattan Store
Mobile POS pioneer Square is venturing into new territory with its own brick-and-mortar store in Manhattan.
The Square Showroom will give business owners the opportunity to see, test out and buy its products.
“As we’ve grown from our original reader and POS software to an ecosystem of tools that help you run your business, we felt it was important to offer you the opportunity to experience these products firsthand before deciding which tools will work best for your business,” the company said in a blog post.
The space also includes a support desk where customers can make an appointment to troubleshoot a specific issue or get training on a new product. Square customers’ merchandise, which will change every month, also will be for sale in the store.
The decision comes as the lines between brick-and-mortar and online retail continue to blur. Amazon was cleared this week to buy grocery chain Whole Foods, while Walmart teamed up with Google to enable “voice commerce,” by which shoppers can shop for Walmart items through Google Assistant for delivery or in-store pickup.
