ERI gains new core banking system deal in Burundi
Banque Burundaise pour le Commerce et l’Investissement (BBCI) has selected ERI’s Olympic core banking system.
This is ERI’s first project in the country, Banking Technology understands, and the fifth in sub-Saharan Africa. The central banks of Angola and Djibouti are already on the Olympic user list.
BBCI is one of Burundi’s largest banks. It services retail and corporate clients.
According to the vendor, the bank issued a request for proposal (RFP) at the end of 2016 to find a replacement for its legacy core banking system. Olympic was chosen “based on its broad functional coverage and technological strengths”, following “a rigorous evaluation process”.
Anatole Manirakiza, director and CEO of BBCI, states that as the bank is “extremely ambitious” when it comes to its business, it “wanted to be sure to have the right solution”.
“We carefully evaluated the packages available and concluded that Olympic was the perfect match for our current and future requirements,” Manirakiza says.
