Timex and Barclaycard collaborate to create contactless payment watch
Timeless, but it’s all about that strap.
Timex and Barclaycard have partnered in true style to produce a new range of contactless payment watches.
The Fairfield Contactless promises to be a perfect fusion of style and smart functionality. Coming in at a retail price of £159, it’s all about the leather bPay embedded strap, which brings wearable technology to the wrist.
bPay works the same as other contactless payment methods, allowing for £30 and under at over 490,000 locations across the UK. A dedicated bPay app allows for spend tracking, balance top up, and management of contactless payments.
“The functionality of the Fairfield Contactless watch gives our consumer the option of hands free payment, whilst retaining the timeless character of this classic chronograph watch,” says Duncan Harris, Timex UK sales and marketing director.
For those not in the market for a new watch, the bPay powered leather straps will be soon sold separately and are available in black or brown.
September 2017 marks the tenth anniversary of Barclaycard introducing contactless payments to the UK. Today, more than half eligible transactions up to £30 are made using contactless and spending has increased 166% in 2016, with 2017 looking to break that record.
