ABN Amro, ING and Rabobank hit by cyberattacks
Three Dutch banks, ABN Amro, ING and Rabobank, suffered a series of DDoS attacks last weekend (27 and 28 January).
On its site, ABN Amro says: “The attacks have now been stopped and our systems, including mobile banking, internet banking and Ideal [payments], are available for clients again.”
It says the security of payments and client data was “at no point under threat”.
During the attack, internet banking, mobile banking, its website and Ideal were unavailable or extremely slow on 27 January from around 8pm to 12.15am CET and on 28 January from 12pm to 2pm CET and after 7pm CET.
On 26 January, the bank experienced downtime due to technical problems. This was unrelated to the DDoS attacks.
ING says: “During the DDoS attack ING’s internet site was blasted with data traffic causing our servers to overload and which put pressure on the availability of online banking.”
ING’s services have been restored.
A Rabobank spokeswoman Margo van Wijgerden told AFP: “We have been targeted by a DDoS attack since 9:10am (0810 GMT) this morning (29 January) and our clients don’t have access or very little access to online banking.”
As with ABN Amro, the two banks say clients’ details were not compromised.
