Ex-JP Morgan duo launch blockchain start-up Clovyr
More than just a development framework
US-based start-up Clovyr has powered up offering application development to the blockchain domain.
The firm is the creation of Amber Baldet (CEO) and Patrick Mylund Nielsen (CTO), who both worked on JP Morgan’s blockchain platform, Quorum.
Clovyr says it is more than just a development framework, as it offers an ecosystem of applications and services that lets teams experiment, iterate, and push products to production.
These are early days as it is looking for new recruits – such as in development, design, strategy, education, marketing and support.
Baldet and Nielsen bring plenty of experience to their new venture.
Baldet previously led JP Morgan’s Blockchain Centre of Excellence and served as chair of the financial industry working group of the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance since the inception of each.
Nielsen led development for JP Morgan’s open source blockchain projects including Quorum and Constellation, and sat on the firmwide Cryptography Review Board.
In an interview with Fortune, Clovyr says its product is now under development, and is slated to take the form of something akin to an app store, where people and businesses can experiment with a multitude of decentralised apps and services, developer toolsets, and underlying distributed ledgers.
The company says the platform will serve as a neutral ground, offering a browser-like dashboard for the “blockchain-curious”, through which Clovyr can provide support and other services to customers according to their needs.
In addition to Quorum, Baldet and Nielsen say Clovyr will initially be compatible with Parity and Geth, two Ethereum software clients. They plan to add other blockchain integrations into the mix as demand dictates.
Baldet jokes: “Sorry, there’s no ICO.” No doubt aware of some of the bad press around these initial coin offerings.
But Clovyr needs to make money, and Baldet told Fortune that companies interested in interacting with public blockchains can expect it to help take care of conversions from traditional dollars to cryptocoins for them, should they desire.
