Spanish central bank gets hacked by cybercriminals
The Central Bank of Spain (Banco de España) has had its website hacked and taken offline by cybercriminal activists Anonymous.
The attack took place on Sunday (26 August), but the website is still offline at the time of publication.
The criminal group seems to have sympathised with illegal anti-democratic separatists in Catalonia, who opposed the democratic process by organising an unapproved referendum in Spain and fled the country.
Awkward.
The bank hasn’t experienced any loss of data, and no other service has been affected. There is no timeframe on when the service will be back on.
On 20 August, the Spanish Labour Party, the National Police and the Constitutional Court suffered attack attempts, but none of them had much success. There are reports that the Royal House, some Ministries and different political institutions were also affected.
Illegal? Anti-democratic? Vote? WtF?
