Lastminute.com launches travel Visa card
Lastminute.com, the online travel agency, has extended its partnerships with Wirecard and Visa to offer a new multi-currency Visa card.
From next week, travellers will be able to pay in the local currency worldwide, without the need to exchange cash. Unsurprisingly, the card comes with an app, called the lm card.
Sergio Signoretti, chief financial officer at lastminute.com, says: “Now travellers no longer need to worry about converting currency in a foreign country, or whether their foreign credit card will be accepted at ATMs abroad.”
The app allows users to check their balances, top up their wallets and exchange currencies. They can also access rewards to be potentially spent on trips in the future. The card will hold three currencies – EUR, GBP and USD – and is available for iOS and Android.
As long as Visa cards are accepted, users are able to use that card at that location.
To support its ambitions, Lastminute.com cites stats from the Office of National Statistics (ONS), which reveal in 2017 UK residents spent £44.8 billion on visits overseas (a 2% increase from 2016).
The firm adds that it has around ten million monthly users on its website – and naturally will be looking to tap into this market to promote its card.
