US Payments Forum pushing for contactless at ATMS
The US Payments Forum wants to help ATM owners and operators make some progress and accept contactless chip transactions.
According to the organisation – whose members include Amex, Apple, FIS, Fiserv, Mastercard and Visa – more than 85% of ATMs in the US are now accepting EMV contact chip cards.
It reckons many ATM owners are up for change and is offering guidance to help.
Randy Vanderhoof, executive director of the US Payments Forum, says: “Consumers are getting used to making fast contactless payments at merchant locations across the US; the ATM is the next logical segment to go contactless. It’s important that ATM providers, acquirers, processors, and vendors understand the requirements and full process when it comes to implementation.”
Its guide focuses on contactless transactions completed with near-field communication (NFC)-enabled mobile wallets and contactless-enabled chip cards and is meant to serve as a starting point for contactless implementation.
It includes the basics of contactless concepts; and certification, testing and approvals requirements.
