ANZ hits up Eftpos for Apple Pay capabilities
ANZ has partnered with Eftpos to allow its customers to link and use their debit cards with Apple Pay on an iPhone or Apple Watch.
This new feature also includes cash withdrawals at the check-out of participating supermarkets – what in the UK we call cash-back.
ANZ customer engagement lead Kath Bray says: “ANZ is continually looking for ways to improve our customers’ payment experiences and this gives our three million Access Advantage Visa debit cardholders more choice when making payments using Apple Pay.”
“Customers will still enjoy the same high level of convenience and security they have become used to with Apple Pay and Eftpos,” she adds.
The firms highlight the security and privacy embedded in Apple Pay’s design, “which is transforming mobile payments”. So many things are these days.
When customers use an ANZ debit card with Apple Pay, the card numbers are not stored on the device, but a unique device account number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure element on the device. Each transaction is authorised with a one-time unique dynamic security code.
The bank explains that Apple Pay users will continue to receive all the rewards and benefits offered by credit and debit cards. In stores Apple Pay works with iPhone SE, iPhone 6 and later, and Apple Watch.
