Tappy Tech and Timex team for wearable tokenisation
Hong Kong-based Tappy Technologies has launched a partnership with Timex Group for the tokenisation of wearables.
Tappy is a licensed wearable token service provider and will offer its platform for digital and mobile payments to Timex – thus making a “traditional” watch a mobile payment carrier.
Wayne Leung, CEO of Tappy, says: “Highly sophisticated algorithms ensure that our solution operates flawlessly without batteries and that any products that incorporate our technology can be aesthetically pleasing, which is important to our watch partners.”
Brian Pemberton, group VP advance products, Timex Group, adds: “The highlight of the new solution is Tappy’s UPPU [universal passive provisioning unit] which enables non-chargeable devices like traditional timepieces to be tokenised.”
According to Tappy, its token payment solutions can effectively turn any watch into a credit or debit card, giving users more choices to pay.
Its battery-less chip can be placed in “virtually” any watch strap and be tokenised using UPPU.
Timex you will know well. The group’s companies produce watches under a number of brands, including Timex, Nautica, Guess, GC, Salvatore Ferragamo, Versace, Versus and Ted Baker.
