Maybank unleashes e-wallet for everyone
Malaysia’s Maybank has unveiled its e-wallet service MAE for cashless payments and account opening on the app.
MAE stands for “Maybank Anytime, Everyone” and offers an in-app virtual Visa card and QRPay, for payments in stores and online.
As you’d expect, MAE comes with a very trendy and funky website offering bill splitting, payments tracking, and top ups.
Datuk Abdul Farid Alias, Maybank’s president and CEO, says MAE is an example of a “highly engaging digital experience for all segments”.
He adds that Maybank is keen to be the “‘digital bank of choice’ not only in the country, but in the region”.
The bank is targeting 100,000 MAE users by the end of this year. Maybank has 4.5 million mobile customers.
Maybank is active and ambitious in its part of the world.
Last year, the bank and Singapore-based ride-hailing service Grab teamed up to drive the usage of Grab’s new cashless payment method in Malaysia.
Maybank also launched its “FutureReady” digital upskilling programme and set aside MYR30 million ($7.6 million) to fund it.
