Tokyo calls for foreign fintechs to enter accelerator programme
Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) is inviting foreign fintech start-ups to apply to its accelerator programme, reports Jane Connolly.
Fintech Business Camp Tokyo is designed for fintechs working with the latest financial technologies – such as artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain – and modern business models that are not already represented in Japan.
Areas of particular interest include payments, management and procurement of funds, asset management, insurance and security.
As part of its “Global Financial City: Tokyo” vision, TMG acknowledges the importance of nurturing the fintech industry. The programme will provide selected start-ups with mentoring from leading companies in the Japanese financial sector, along with business matching with Tokyo firms.
Applications close on 5 July. Mentoring for the successful applicants will begin in October and a public pitch event, including participation from investors and companies, will take place in November. Details about how to apply are on the website.
