RBC launches student experience on mobile app
Canadian bank, RBC, is the first in its country to launch a student banking experience created in part by students themselves on its mobile app.
The ‘Mobile Student Edition’ is designed to tap into the Gen Z market, prompted by internal RBC research which found that only 38% of university students feel they have their finances under control.
The new feature offers faster account access, spending insights, account colour coding, contact photos for payees and easy-to-understand definitions for financial terms.
“We worked closely with a group of young Canadians throughout the entire process – from the initial research phase through to final testing,” says RBC’s executive vice-president for cards, payments and banking, Sean Amato-Gauci.
He added: “With their insights on how they engage with content and interact with money, we were able to deliver a mobile banking experience that’s in line with the apps that they know and love.”
RBC’s goal is to help students learn more about money and give them confidence to spend while understand the priorities of their financial future.
The largest bank in Canada has also created programs such as ‘RBC Future Launch’ which helps students network to secure work experience, ‘RBCxMusic’ which posts video interviews with famous music artists on saving, and ‘On Campus Branches’ which gives students advice on their doorstep about resume writing and starting a small business.
The Student Edition is accessible to RBC clients under 22 only.
