Honcho lands spot on Tech Nation fintech accelerator
Reverse-auction financial services marketplace app Honcho has won a place on the government-backed Tech Nation fintech accelerator programme, reports Jane Connolly.
During the six-month programme, along with 22 other innovative early-stage scale-ups from across the UK, Honcho will have access to seminars and networking with industry leaders and a three-day showcase trip to the US.
Durham-based Honcho launched into the UK car insurance market on iOS, Android and the web in early September and had received almost 3,000 downloads within the first 10 days.
“To be offered a spot on this hugely oversubscribed government-backed programme is big news for us and affirmation that our brand shows great disruptive potential in the UK and beyond,” says Honcho CEO, Gavin Sewell.
“The insights and opportunities we’re set to receive on the programme are ones that money-can’t-buy and we feel extremely lucky to be given access to the minds of leading entrepreneurs who have already successfully grown fintech products from the ground up.”
Mike Jackson, entrepreneur success director at Tech Nation, adds: “The companies in this year’s cohort have demonstrated significant promise as future fintech leaders and with the global fintech market expected to be worth nearly £250 billion by 2023, they will play a vital role in supporting the UK to remain at the head of the global pack.”
The fintech accelerator programme is delivered as part of HM Treasury’s Fintech Sector Strategy.
