Merck Sharp & Dohme FCU adopts Fiserv’s biometric authentication
Merck Sharp & Dohme Federal Credit Union has implemented three biometric security solutions from Fiserv to authenticate its members and employees, reports Jane Connolly.
The Pennsylvania credit union has chosen Verifast Branch for member authentication and Verifast SSO to verify staff across its internal computer system, along with Verifast Access to replace fobs and key cards for building entry.
Palm readers use light to capture the user’s unique palm vein pattern, which is then matched against a database that synchronises with the financial institution’s core processing and access systems.
The readers can be embedded into on-counter palm scanners, computer mice and wall-mounted terminals.
“Many of our members have spent their careers in STEM fields and have a natural appreciation for technology,” says Dave Whitehead, CEO of Merck Sharp & Dohme FCU. “Verifast delivers a rare combination of speed and security that facilitates an excellent experience for our members and employees. I use Verifast daily – it’s simple, it’s smart and we’re proud to be an industry leader in biometrics thanks to what we’ve built with Fiserv.”
Vincent Brennan, president, Credit Union Solutions at Fiserv, adds: “We anticipate that many credit unions will adopt organisation-spanning biometric solutions over the next several years due to their appealing ability to enhance both security and the user experience.”
Fiserv’s quarterly survey revealed that nearly 60% of consumers would be interested in seeing biometrics replace passwords and PINs.
