Standard Chartered opens second innovation lab in Hong Kong
Standard Chartered has opened its second eXellerator innovation lab in Hong Kong in a bid to breed “an innovative culture across the bank and to engage the fintech ecosystem”, it said in a statement.
Located at Standard Chartered’s 42-storey skyscraper bank building in the central business district of Hong Kong, the new hub will act as “a focal point for engagement” between fintech stakeholders, including regulators and government-backed organisations.
The focus for the hub’s members will be on emerging technologies and co-creating solutions for Standard Chartered’s corporate, commercial and institutional banking clients.

“Hong Kong is not only Standard Chartered’s largest retail market, it is also where some of our most important corporate commercial & institutional banking clients reside and where there is a vibrant ecosystem for technology and innovation,” says SC Ventures global head Alex Manson.
“The new eXellerator lab location in Central gets us to the heart of it and we look forward to many more engagements and partnerships,” Manson adds.
The the first Hong Kong eXellerator, which is based in Kwun Tong and opened last year, is focused on developing solutions and addressing client pain points for the bank’s retail banking business.
Part of the Bank’s SC Ventures unit, these hubs are some of the initiatives within the unit to drive innovation, invest in fintech and create new business models.
