Nordea’s chief digital officer quits ahead of bank’s next digital phase
Nordea’s chief digital officer (CDO) Ewan MacLeod has announced his departure from the financial services group, citing “the next phase” of the bank’s digital journey as “the right time” for him to leave.
The bank is currently undergoing a front-to-back office digital transformation. Since 2015, with the help of its main supplier Temenos which won its largest ever deal with the bank, the firm has been updating its egacy systems, supplied by Finastra and Tieto.
In his role, MacLeod’s established Nordea Ventures to invest into fintech start-ups on behalf of the bank, as well as taking a more general internal responsibility to promote digital awareness amid the on-going cultural change the company is facing.
Having been based in the UK with Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and Nationwide, MacLeod relocated from London to the Nordics over three years ago for the role.

Effective 31 December 2019, MacLeod will leave the bank not only as its former CDO, but also as its second former head of group digital, which was created to find fintech partnerships for the bank.
MacLeod worked alongside the other head of group digital Poul Raaholt, who is nearly a 17-year veteran of the bank and now works at an artificial intelligence capital investor AI Ventures in Copehagen.
As for MacLeod, he says he has “no fixed agenda for the next step” according to a LinkedIn post, which read: “It’s been simply wonderful to experience life here in the Nordics.
“We’ve had such a great time embracing the Nordic culture wholeheartedly – Octavia, our 2-year-old, was even born here in Copenhagen so as a family, we’ll always have one foot in the Nordics on-going.”
Nordea has been approached by FinTech Futures for comment.
