Banking Technology April 2020 issue out now
All things equal
The latest edition of our flagship magazine – Banking Technology – is out now, packed with news, analysis and insights, case studies, research and expert commentary.
A note from our editor, Sharon Kimathi:
There is a huge amount of hype about fintech and its role in financial services – especially technology that’s brewing up in innovation labs. In this edition of Banking Technology magazine, we’ll be looking at the tech that will help financial institutions cross the next frontier of innovation. From frictionless online payments at Fractal Labs to peer-to-peer foreign exchange.
We examine how fintech is helping the next generation of women in business through ACI’s Coding for Girls initiative, whilst Emily Fowler, staff writer at FinTech Futures, explores programmes such as Accenture’s 2020 FinTech Innovation Lab and its pledge to include 50% more female-led start-ups. Fowler highlights that there is still plenty to be done to achieve equality in fintech, including more funding schemes and appointing women in higher positions of responsibility.
Martin Whybrow, senior staff writer at FinTech Futures, speaks to a female leader in fintech, Carole Layzell, Nationwide’s channel service director. She unpacks her career in finance and her role “scanning the horizon” to ensure the bank stays ahead in these times of rapid change and uncertainty. She achieves this through keeping the branch at the heart of the business and looking for potential fintech partnerships.
Speaking of fintech partnerships, as rosy as they might start, the thorns become harder to avoid in times of hardship. When those times come crawling, fintech lawyers get calling. I speak to some top patent attorneys to dissect what a start-up can do to protect its intellectual property, especially when a budding fintech is based in a bank’s innovation lab.
We hope you find this month’s interviews, features and analysis thought-provoking. Feel free to check out the website for all the latest news and industry reactions to the coronavirus crisis. From all of us at Banking Technology magazine, we hope you stay strong and stay safe!
